The Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding was founded in Doha, Qatar (2015) to award $1000 to the winner. It is an international prize run by an independent board of trustees, impartial panels of judges, and a professional steering committee. We aspire to inculcate a culture of knowledge and dialogue, develop international understanding, and promote mature intellectual interaction and exchange between Arabic and other world languages through the medium of translation. We seek to reward merit and excellence, encourage creativity, honor translators and acknowledge their role in strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation amongst peoples and nations of the world, spreading the values of diversity, pluralism and openness, and upholding the highest moral and ethical standards.
Last Date for Nomination is 20 September 2015. Nominations are limited to the fields of the humanities and social sciences in 2015. Submissions can be made by individuals or institutions (publishing houses, research centres, translation institutes, university departments, etc.). Nominations for the Achievement Award however are made by institutions only. All translators must be living at the time of the nomination. Only one translated work is accepted for nomination by individuals. Institutions can nominate up to three translated works by three different translators. All translations must be published between 2010 and 2015.
The nominating party should download and fill an official Nomination Form obtained from Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding official website (www.hta.qa). Three copies of the original work and three copies of the translations (all non-returnable) should be sent by post to the following address:
