CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
Vermont Studio Center/Zoland Poetry
2011 Translation Fellowship
Applications are now being accepted for the 2011 Zoland Poetry/Vermont Studio Center Translation Fellowship. The application deadline is June 15, 2011.
This fellowship, open to all translators of international writing into English, provides an all-inclusive four-week residency at the Vermont Studio Center (http://www.vermontstudiocenter.org), the international creative retreat center for artists and writers in northern Vermont. Abundant working time, a private studio, an international community of fellow artists, a roster of Visiting Artists and Writers, a beautiful village setting in the northern Green Mountains, and a growing Literature in Translation program (http://vermontstudiocenter.org/literature-in-translation-lit-program) are all a part of a Studio Center residency.
Founded in 2009, the Zoland Poetry/VSC Fellowships provide two annual residencies, one for a poet and one for a translator. The establishment of these ongoing fellowships has allowed each organization (http://www.zolandpoetry.com) to open up new creative opportunities, while providing valuable time for writers to focus on individual projects.
Prior to 2009, VSC accepted 12 writers per month for poetry, fiction, and non-fiction residencies; since then, fellowships are being made available for translators and international writers as well. Translators and international poets and writers are now a regular part of the writing community at VSC thanks in part to the Zoland Fellowship, as well as other targeted international fellowship awards.
Each fellowship includes:
§ uninterrupted, distraction-free writing time
§ a private studio in the riverside Maverick Writing Studios building, including a networked printer and wireless Internet access
§ the presence of two Visiting Writers per month, each of whom gives a reading and a craft talk and offers optional individual conferences
§ access to the Mason House Conference Room & Library
§ the opportunity to share work at one of three monthly readings
The application form and fellowship guidelines are now available on the VSC website (http://vermontstudiocenter.org/fellowships). Applicants should submit 3 copies of the original poems/translations, along with a description of English-language rights, author bio, and translator CV.
Deadline for the 2011 Zoland Poetry/VSC Translation Fellowship is June 15, 2011.
